1/2 Dolphin - 1/2 Swordfish Trip
Thursday afternoon the Lady Pamela II set out on a half Dolphin half Swordfish trip. The 14 hour journey composed of Captain Paul, Chuck the mate and 3 guys from Jersey. We headed out Port Everglades running southeast. Chuck set the trolling gear and within moments we hooked a +350 lb Blue Marlin in 650 ft of water. The fight began. He started “grey hounding” and sounded into the deep edge. After a 40 minute battle on 30 lb test, we didn't have much of a chance and we pulled the hook. Chuck put a fresh set of trolling gear out and landed a 40 lb Bull Dolphin. That thing was a monster. We continued south and stopped at a shipwreck. The trip was only getting better at this point. We nailed a 53 inch Golden Amberjack.
Plan B – We ran out to swordfish land. It was sunset and lines were out with vicious optimism. Two long hours went by and we hooked a double header. One of the swords was 100 inches and the other sword was around 84 inches. Just as we were about to head in and make it a day, a 95 inch Hammerhead shark was hooked. It was a long day, but an awesome trip.
