Yellow Eye Snapper & Lobster in the Bahamas! Can't Post

August 1-5, 2008

Back to Bimini!

Our last trip to the islands was so productive, we wanted more...and we got more! The weather was awesome; sea's were flat as glass, the sun was shinin' bright and the fish were around. I blasted over with family and friends Friday morning around 10:45 AM and started seeing land around noon. We spotted a weed line about 6 miles off of Bimini, checked it out and pitched bait to some nice size Mahi - Mahi. They wanted no part of it, though.

We knew of several great yellow eye snapper spots we hit up a few months back, so we decided to go deep dropping in 830 ft of water Saturday afternoon. We fished with two 130 electric LP reels, 15 hooks per reel. It took aprx. three minutes to hit bottom, and it was an instant bite. We averaged 8 fish per drop. We reached our limit in no time at all and everybody enjoyed it.

Lobster season was also in effect. The limit was 6 per person or 10 per boat. Most of the lobster condo's had already been raided and emptied, so we ran a few miles off to catch our summer crabs (there's nothing like fresh lobster for dinner). I will be heading back to Bimini soon for more diving!

Tight Lines!
